Description
BOOK TITLE: “Den som gapar efter mycket”, which is Swedish and comes from a proverb that says something like “If you try to grab too much, you will probably just lose it all”.
AUTHOR: Kristofer von Beetzen.
The story revolves around modern mans greediness and the length we go to satisfy our desire for money, love and imaginary happiness. The twist to the story is how the main character – who came in to real trouble caused by his own greediness – managed to strike back at his foe with greediness as a weapon.
The story is set in Stockholm in present time in the posh quarters of Stureplan, where finance, fashion, music and media share the limelight. The people are cool, good looking and wealthy, but at the same time discrete about their elevated positions. They wear IWC watches instead of Rolex or Breitling. They drive a discreetly elegant BMW instead of an in-your-face Porsche. So the design of the cover must reflect this.
STYLE: Airy, chilled, discrete elegance rather than bombastic. Modern and conscious, like Apple compared to ugly PC-laptops. Stripped of everything that is not necessary to communicate the message.
WHAT WE WANT: We are looking for a new, ground-breaking book cover design for a fiction story. It´s hard to be ground-breaking and sometimes not even necessary. But as books are being sidetracked by new media, streaming tv-series and films on demand, we need to resurrect the original way of telling a great story.
Maybe the way is to approach how the movie and tv industry has designed the posters for their blockbusters or maybe it´s about being really arty and intriguing – we don’t know.
The main goal is of course to attract interest in the book, catch the eye and push the potential reader to the point of purchase. But with so much competing for our attention, a book cover today needs to stand out – especially if the book is from a debutant.

THE PLOT:
The main character William Berner, who ends up in jail when his employer and foe sets him up to make even more millions, is 35 years old and married to a very beautiful woman. We really don´t know how he looks like (like Jay Gatsby) but he does not match the looks of his wife. But as long as he is up and coming in the finance business, she does not care about looks.
He, on the other hand, is truly in love with her and goes to every length to provide for her posh living. This gets him in trouble as he tries to get the money he needs for a bigger apartment in a dubious way, which in turns reveals that his employer uses him as scapegoat for his illegal insider deals.
He ends up in jail and loses everything, including his wife. But with a grand plan, and the help of his employers greediness, he manages to shift his fortune to himself and also gets the employer to admit to his wife about the real circumstances of the jail sentence. But his wife is lost forever. So he ends up rich but poor, so to say.

We are telling you this if you have ideas of having people on the cover. We don´t know if that is a good idea, that is all up to you, but the reason why we love stories (in any media) is that we want to know what happens to the characters. No story has ever made a success on just a good plot.
