timb got their new web page design by running a design contest:
Show us the new website for this leading Sussex attraction
Check out timb's Web page design contest…
A characterful Sussex pub/restaurant with outstanding food and hotel facilities - 13 en-suite rooms. It is tastefully decorated and patronised by all the best families in Sussex. The website audience is nationwide but mainly London: Married couples looking for a fun and social escape for the weekend. (Consumers). The Griffin is famous for its character and spirit of humour. That will be shown in the web copy, and the ambiance of the place will be demonstrated by the photographs (to be full-width on the homepage). Please refer to the visuals attached for theming the website with The Griffin's new branding.
The style needs to be characterful and classy traditional, yet smart, contemporary and modern. This is an ancient pub (since 1500) with a modern ethic for high-class cuisine and a first-class wine list. It is well-known locally and highly regarded by hundreds of regulars. It should show authority with its style therefore, as one of the best 'go-to' pubs in Sussex. The sort of authoritative 'look' we're seeking is shown in the Babington House website, one of our samples, but we attach visuals for the style of font and colours. We imagine a fixed menu which remains on top of the site in the winning design, and long scrolling pages which scroll upward with more photos and lead-in links to other sections of the website (see menu in other info). We want to have a slider of full-width images at the top of the homepage, and perhaps at the top of section pages too. The attached images are samples you can work into your designs. The colour palette should follow the ones uploaded. We don't have pantone references for them yet, but they are (hopefully) coming. The colours to use are the light blue, light green and crimson alongside the deep grey. It might work too, at your discretion, to use the ornamental patterns (or similar) which are included in the visuals uploaded.
1. Homepage - highly visual quality photos in slider (photography under way - samples attached) with large clear links to the other parts of the site using hover-effects and buttons... There is to be a fixed menu stuck to the top of the page giving the phone no. and bookings button. A booking form (or the first few fields of it) could be scrolled to, on the homepage. As per Babington House. Plus a join newsletter form with an optional checkbox for Special Offers. Each of these should be interspersed with photo links to other sections|subsections of the website - Food & Drink | Garden; Bedrooms; Events | Private Hire | Cricket; Hereabouts, 2. A listings page, showing intros for the 13 rooms and also for blog entries, cricket results, events etc. with a thumbnail image, an excerpt of 100 words and a button to read more. 3. Content page for individual room, blog news story, event or cricket match report. allowing a slider at the top if called for, paragraphs of text and images. At the bottom of every page, above the footer, we imagine a set of thumbnail photo links to other parts of the site.
