MyFirstHouse.co.uk
MyFirstHouse.co.uk is an independent portal for visitors looking to buy their first home. The site contains all the information needed to buy a house, including checklists and mortgage quotes (where the main revenue will come from).
A predominately an online UK audience for first time buyers, so that's generally 20-35 years old.
They will be looking for a friendly, up to date website they can trust.
sitors will want to feel warm and good about the fact they are settling down and purchasing their first property, so the the site (firstly the logo) needs to be reflect this feeling -
The brand : independent, honest, money saving, friendly, helpful, useful advice, hand holding.
Please review the attached wireframe and logo design.
The page should also contain the strap line 'Independent, honest and money saving advice - all under one roof'.
The homepage needs to grab attention in terms of what the site is for, with the main call to action being the 'How much can you afford' box. This box will grab basic mortgage quote details within this page. For now, please design to capture a user's salary (or salaries for 2 people). - example : http://www.moneysupermarket.com/mor…alculator/
The checklist is to encourage people to click through to the 'Steps in buying a house' page.
Newsletter needs to be a name and email address sign up.
The Find the best mortgage also needs to be a strong call to action.
Latest news will highlight (with images) the last 3 new items
Example competitor sites : http://www.firstrungnow.com/ (although poor design, you get the idea about news articles and getting people to click through and give their details).
Over all, a fresh clean and friendly site that looks much better than the competition.
The wireframes have been designed to contain enough information on the homepage without it appearing cluttered. With the main call to actions being the main menu and mortgage advice.

THe second page is an example of the content page of this site, for example : http://www.firstrungnow.com/news/fi…-1819.aspx
A good content page example: http://www.workbooks.com/why-workbo…s-approach
This contains a nice HTML area in the middle, with standard headers and footers from the homepage. On the left there is also a nicely designed subnav, with call out boxes and modules.
The modules (boxes on the left to be under the sub navigation) needed to be designed are similar to the homepage.
How much can you afford
First time buyer checklist
Have you thought about utilities (gas electric etc)
Legal help
Insuring your home
Sign up to the news letter
THey need to be seperate as they will be turned on and off per page. Essentially they are nice graphical boxes for each of the main navigation items.
No existing website
Examples included with in brief. Workbooks.com is a nice example of a clean design, good homepage and easy to maintain subpages.
