Games & Recreational
We build apps for iPad, Android, Mac and PC that let you design your own comic books, animatics, storybooks, fan fiction and publish them for sale. We are primarily trying to attract writers who want to create original stories.
Try to retain some negative space. A clean, functional layout is good. We're a start up so it's important to make it clear what we're about right from the word go. We help people create their own comic books and fan fiction. We help you get published and build a following. The tricky thing is we have three different audiences: Readers, Writers and Corporate sponsors Keep a clean layout. If in doubt, less is more. Don't clutter the page. In descending order of priority we want to: Priority 1) Attract writers!! I don't mind if you are not subtle about this goal. It must be very obvious where to click if someone wants to author their own story. e.g. "Click here to write and draw an original comic book". "Click here to get the Comic Designer app for iPad" "Fan fiction" is a subset of the writing section - It is distinct from writing an original work based on your own characters. This is where we help someone write a storyline about a licensed character from movies, television and other media. e.g. "Publish your own Superman comic book here". Priority 2) Make it easy for people who want to read comic books, scripts and storylines. "Here are the latest published works for you to read" We expect entries to use some licensed elements in the design (we will replace as appropriate in the final site). e.g. Show tiles of comic book covers. Extra points for responsive designs that are not overly busy: i.e. Use the available screen real estate without creating lots of crap everywhere. We want to look after our iPad users as well as graphic artists on dual screen monitors. Extra points for submissions which include original artwork of any kind. Priority 3) Make it easy for corporate sponsors to log on and make licensing and advertising enquiries.
There is a word document attached which goes into more detail. We sell a couple of different things: Apps for designing comic books, the comic books themselves, advertising and licensing opportunities. We effectively are targeting three different types of audiences, which is tricky: - Writers (most important) - Readers - Corporations The site needs to clean (probably a predominantly light colour) as well as visually engaging. The main sections as you scroll down the page are: Writers - Create an original story - Create fan fiction - Publisher Portal Read original scripts, comics and animatics - Latest original works - Browse original works Read fan fiction - Latest fan fiction - Browse fan fiction Commercial - Licensed characters - Advertise in our comics Support - Login - Create an account - Report a bug - Request a feature - Report inappropriate content
What to avoid
No comic sans font or anything remotely resembling comic sans font please. No cursive fonts. (Keep it legible). Avoid using any tiny little hyperlinks. This site has to be "touch" friendly. We are not looking for boring grid layouts that anybody could create in 5 minutes.
