janet j got their new web page design by running a design contest:
Fresh new look for SNA website!
Check out janet j's Web page design contest…
We have three key areas - we provide support to Start-Ups in the green-energy sector - we refer to this as the SMARTpreneur piece (one-to-one coaching, etc); we help existing green-energy businesses connect with each other so that they can partner to bid on larger projects together (also in the green energy sector) and we also provide business support services to them on a fee-for service basis (this includes things like processing their payroll and taxes for them, business coaching, proposal writing, employee training, etc); and our newest line of business which is just rolling out is our "Alliance Learning" - this is not at all reflected on our current website as it is going to roll out in March. This is designed more specifically for our larger Alliance Members - we work with them to create a training and development plan that supports their business growth goals and then we match them up with the training that their employees need (either off the shelf from a third-party provider or custom-built). This could be face-to-face or e-learning (which is a big piece of what we have been building).
www.smartnetalliance.ca (but it is very confusing for visitors; it has become a dumping ground for everything that we've created over the past year; even I don't know where to go when I arrive on the home page; and there is not a clear "call to action")
Note to designers: do not just recreate the samples that have been provided! We are looking for new and different ideas! Be creative. Think out of the box. ========================================== I want the focus to be on people/entrepreneurs rather than on the products and services that they provide. Having said that, when a green-energy entrepreneur arrives at the home page (regardless of the age and stage of their business) I want them to say "Oh - I have finally found a place that is just for me!" I want a fresh, modern, clean and vibrant design. I want people to be excited that they've found our site. I think that photography is more engaging. I think it needs to match/coordinate with the colour scheme of our logos (see attachments). And there is one attachment that is feedback on a recently proposed design, that shows a series of small people across the top - I like that it made the page "real"...but I think we can be more creative than we have been so far...we've been too close to this project for too long and need fresh eyes with fresh designs and ideas. Please review the attachments that I have provided.
When visitors arrive on the home page, I want their choices to be clear - are they a start-up, an existing business or are they more sophisticated and looking for some serious support services for their biz (like training)? I want a clear call to action that causes them to sign up for our newsletter so that we can keep in touch with them. I want a fixed navigation across the top that includes our newsroom, contact info and events - this will appear on every page. I also want a special box of some sort that we can change periodically (to announce special events, etc). I want the social media button options to appear somewhere. I am looking for a way to make the page really draw people in and want to explore further (and connect with us).
What to avoid
I don't want anything that clashes with our logos. I am trying to minimize the drop downs and put more info on a page, using the division of colour bars (like you see on lots of the sites that use parallox scrolling). Please refer to the handwritten drawings that I have attached to give you a better sense of the whole site and what this home page needs to look like.
Please review all of the attachments and feel free to send me clarifying questions. I will respond within the day.

Designers across the globe delivered design magic.
janet j collaborated with designers to refine their ideas
When design entries come in, you can rate them so designers know what you’re looking for in your logo design.
99designs has great collaboration tools so you can pinpoint and capture your ideas
And then… they selected a winner!
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
