Monta Vista Track & Field
I am the head coach for the Monta Vista High School track & field (and cross country) teams. We are a high-achieving (academically and athletically and fun) group of kids. Monta Vista has a long-term tradition of excellence in running, especially distance running. The 2011 track team has 81 athletes, boys and girls, and competes at a very high level.
Monta Vista High School is located in Apple Computer's home town of Cupertino, California so we share some of the same design aesthetics--modern, clean, cool.
This T-Shirt is for the athletes to wear both for training and as a cover up over their uniforms on race day. The goal is for the T-Shirt to help the team feel 'special'--that being a part of the Monta Vista Track & Field team is cool, that the coaches cared enough to get something special done for us. We want other athletes to look at us and think, 'the athletes on that team are tight; I wish I was on that team.'
The design will be printed on a short sleeve, dark-to-medium gray technical T (specifically, it's a Nike technical tee, color is Nike anthracite).
The main school colors are purple and gold (yellow). White is a tertiary color (not black). A third color for the t-shirt design can be white, a gray or black. No more than 3 colors.
We want a clean, simple design aesthetic that can be used again and again. We really like the USA Track & Field team design aesthetic: It's clean, crisp, classic. The USATF web site usatf.org has good examples. Some specific apparel from USATF with designs we like includes:
I like the idea of MVTF or MVTRACK&FIELD someday becoming as easily recognized as USATRACK&FIELD but today, anyway, Monta Vista needs to be spelled out somewhere. So for example if MVTRACK&FIELD was spelled out, then Monta Vista High School would need to be in smaller print somewhere. Everyone knows what USA is but not MV, at least not yet!
