My name is Mike and I help run a global brand of merchandise and apparel that caters to the electronic dance music community. Everything we do is centered around music, whether it's usb bracelets, wallets made from DJ MAGAZINE pages dipped in acrylic, or whatever. A big part of our business plan is collaborating with djs/producers/label owners/etc who want us to handle their merchandise as well as handle our own line.
Our target audience is the crowd that goes out clubbing, listens to electronic dance music, is fashion conscious, does bottle service poolside in Las Vegas while KASKADE is djing or even goes to illegal raves and is still a teenager. Our target age is anywhere from 16-60 that likes clothing that isn't very conservative or normal.
I have an international dj who is very famous who wants to try and do something really cool, interesting, cutting edge, etc with a ghetto blaster. We are slammed with work and need some fresh input from new designers to keep up with work. The design can be an "all over" print, as we have access to an all-over printer in Los Angeles. Feel free to do something where foil is used for some (or all) of the design if you'd like. Get creative. I am a huge fan of black and white digital artwork, so if you're feeling that, then go for it. Use cool angles.....make it bleed off the shirt....even create some sort of collage or wallpaper out of ghetto blasters. I think you get the idea. I am looking for something simple or something off the wall.
Plan on having a small, little space where we incorporate the dj's name into the design. More than likely, it'll be where the manufacturer's label would go on the boom box. I will tell the winner what the dj's name is once we narrow it down to the final designers. Until then, just use "Dj Whoever" in your space. If you have a better idea for a placement of the dj's name, then let me see it or know about it. The ghetto blaster could even be tuned into "Dj Whoever FM" or whatever. What we're not looking for is a traditional DJ billboard tshirt where the name is huge on the front of the shirt. These don't sell well. The design needs to sell itself.
