Ebook Cover for Series
I have a series of ebooks that need to be published, and I need a catchy cover design that I can use again and again. EVERY book starts with "This is True" (the brand/trademark) at the top, and then that particular book's title follows (in the example, "Cost of Being Poor Rising"). The subtitle is always "And 500 Other Bizarre-but-True Stories and Headlines from the World's Press".
The spine of printed books has shown the title this way: "This is True: Cost of Being Poor Rising". Your design MAY be used for printed books, so one way to stand out is to include the back cover as part of your design. The existing back cover is mostly text (review quotes, two-line summary examples of the stories included).
The "This is True" font must be Cooper Black italic; the font faces for other text can be per your discretion.
The sample design has been used for print books; each book in the series has a different base color and, of course, a different main title. That changing base color has been helpful, but is NOT required as long as the design makes it really clear (when multiple thumbnails are lined up) which book is which. The volume number (a required element) can obviously help with that aspect.
THE MAIN WEAKNESS of the current design (besides the clunky look): the title being in a box, which limits the letter count of the title, which has become a problem as titles need to be of variable lengths. Other titles in the series include:
+ Platform Shoes Claim Another Life
+ Artificial Intelligence Like Real Thing
+ Pit Bulls Love You, Really
+ Glow-in-Dark Plants Could Help Farmers
+ Deputy Kills Man With Hammer
+ Invisible Man Disappears From View
(Book titles are actual newspaper headlines.)
I'm not at ALL married to the jack-in-the-book motif. But you might get the idea that the content is amusing, which is what that was trying to convey.
The MISSION of This is True is to provoke thought via social commentary by using humorous "weird-but-true" news stories as its vehicle. If I knew how to convey that graphically, I wouldn't need to hire a designer. :-)
Note that there are a couple of quotes on the cover from reviewers. Space for ONE such quote of variable length is required.
FILE FORMAT: Don't you hate it when a customer chooses wrong when it comes to a graphics package? I've been using CorelDRAW forever. I need to be able to import your design into that package (ver X3) in order to change the title and volume number (and color, IF that's a part of your design) to generate the image each time I'm ready to publish another. This job will not be considered complete until you provide a file of appropriate format that I am able to import.
COPYRIGHT: Obviously, this is a WORK FOR HIRE and all rights must be assigned to me, which I presume is standard here anyway.
