Michael P Selmer Jr
I am a writer
I have a very clear picture of the cover in my head, but not the artistic ability to create it.
The cover will be for a 6x9 book, either paperback of hardback, possibly both. (Dimensions below use this as a guide)
The background of the cover would be black, although a slightly swirling dark gray/black blend might add something, I'm not sure.
In the center of the cover or very slightly below center, is a circle approximately 4.5" in diameter. (Somewhat bigger if necessary) The edge of the circle is uneven (perhaps like the sun), or bleeds into the black.
In the background of the circle, is a snow-topped mountain scene (not huge dramatic peaks, one somewhat rugged peak in the middle, you can google Medicine Bow Peak Wyoming and get a bit of an idea of what I am picturing.)
From the foot of the mountain into the foreground of the circle is a golden-brown prairie. Very, very subtly, in the contours of the mountain and or prairie, is the hint of the face of a mountain lion. (You know, when you look at a ceramic tile and think you see a face, but you have to look at it just right? Like that) I DON'T want everyone to notice it.
On the left side of the circle, perhaps over-lapping the circle, perhaps not, is the silhouette (3-4")of a woman running, angled slightly as if she is running across the prairie toward the mountains. Little or no detail is necessary for the woman's body/face.
Between the woman and the mountain peak, the sun is setting/mostly set/perhaps all the way set. The sky is red near the ground/mountain, but gradually becomes golden yellow. The woman's hair reflects (or has highlights that reflect) both the red and the gold. This also needs to be subtle.
Now the hard part. A scythe is sweeping across the cover. It is in the foreground, except for where it crosses behind the woman's body. I had pictured the scythe as being fairly large, but thin (so that it doesn't block the mountain scene, the point and the back end of the blade possibly blending slightly with the black background. It could be somewhat translucent if that would make it easier to maintain the view of the scenery. I had also pictured the handle of the scythe being mostly off picture to the right.
THIS INFO JUST ADDED -
The title of the book is Harvest of the Heart and would go in the black area above the circle. I want the color and font to have character, but cross the line into lurid. Author's name - Michael Selmer - on the black below the circle.
I am more than happy to answer questions and consider suggestions.
This novel is a character driven, psychological thriller
