FlightCaster
The value-add of our company is providing our prediction of a flight's arrival and departure in comparison to the often-inaccurate official flight information provided by the airlines.
You can see more at http://www.flightcaster.com
See the attached files. (You can use the PSD file as a starting point if you wish.) This is our attempt to mock-up an iphone application. We hope you'll improve it significantly.
The screen is divided into 4 sections:
A general info bar on top with flight name and scheduled departure and arrival time.
Next, an "airline reported status" section with 2 columns for departure and arrival data.
Section 3 is the Real-Time FlightCaster Predicted Status. This is the area you will be focusing on--more info below in the requirements section
Section 4 is for delay factors. It shows why the flight has a given predicted status.
We're basically happy with the general layout of Sections 1, 2 and 4. We're not wed to colors of background, header styles, or exact font choice, but we also don't care too much if it remains as it is. The colors in particular are fairly boring right now. The focus is on designing section 3. But whatever design is decided upon for Section 3, the other sections need to follow.
Again to reiterate--you don't have to change sections 1, 2, and 4--but they do need to be consistent with what you design in section 3.
business travelers
Fill in section 3 with the following items:
"Departure"
"On-Time"
"Predicted Departure:"
"7:30-7:40PM"
"Arrival"
"Small-Delay"
"Predicted Arrival:"
"9:50-10:25PM"
"Updated: 5:25pm 1/27/2010"
Additional notes:
the space for times must be flexible enough to accommodate double digits in the hour slots.
We are particularly looking for creativity in the display of the textual status and time range. Colors and icons/shapes are great--ultimately clean and obvious are what we are after.
Change sections 1,2,4 and to complement your design for section 3 in a holistic matter. The most important data is in section 3 and should natually be the focus of the whole page; however, the context provided by sections 1, 2, 4 are what make the whole concept understandable.
The empty box can be sized height-wise according to your needs. (the width of the screen is 320px)
Font choices must be compatible with the iPhone. (see list: http://daringfireball.net/2007/07/iphone_fonts)

Scannable visual hierarchy that draws attention to the most important features will be considered above the rest.
If you rock this, we'll probably hire you to redesign our website and the rest of the mobile applications...
