Historic Willamette – A Main Street Community
The Historic Willamette – A Main Street Community (WMS) is part of the National Trust Main Street Center. Its goal is to promote local businesses and foster better relations amongst those within the historic Willamette neighborhood of West Linn, OR. Funded privately, the project looks to revitalize the business district, bring tourists into the area, while preserving the town’s unique character and charm.
As a bedroom community located south of metropolitan Portland, West Linn has ~25,000 residents. Its businesses are retail-oriented, with little manufacturing or larger commercial enterprises. The community promotes its parks, recreation, health and wellness.
The town of Willamette was founded in the mid-1800’s along a Native Indian trail, with its early inhabitants trappers / traders along its waterways. The width of the main commercial street of Willamette Falls Drive is due to an early trolley. This 'main street' currently supports a wide variety of restaurants, shops and businesses.
WMS’s goal is to become the #1 destination for local fare, entertainment and retail, and the focal point of West Linn community activity. In support of this goal, WMS stakeholders have decided to embark upon an exercise to establish a new brand identity to embody community vision, and build a relevant, lasting bond with its various constituencies in the community it serves.
Residents, visitors, tourists, business owners, and individuals from the greater West Linn suburb, and Portland, OR metro area.
The only absolute requirement is that, Historic Willamette – A Main Street Community, must be incorporated into the final logo and/or word mark. This project title can surround, be positioned separate from, or may be incorporated into the graphic element. Otherwise, we want:
➢ A logo that is simple and uncluttered w/ too many elements.
➢ A logo that could be interpreted as historic, contemporary and timeless. We’re looking for this brand identity to last twenty years.
➢ Bolder lines, elements and/or graphics; avoid caricatures.
➢ Earth tones and/or contemporary colors are preferred to pastels.
➢ Final shape, such as horizontal, circle or crest orientation.
For all concepts seriously under consideration, we will provide input and feedback for revisions as appropriate.
Please submit each concept 2-up: one version against pure white, and a second version reversed against a pure black background; no gradient backgrounds; the winning design must display well in multiple applications (print, online, etc.)
Format: The winning design must be delivered in Adobe .ai vector format file. All artwork must be original (no stock art elements) and full copyright ownership must be conveyed to WMS.
