We are Orbotix, a young startup from Boulder, CO building a new game platform. Think Wii in reverse. Use your smartphone to connect a baseball sized robotic ball that you can control by the software that is running on your phone. Download the maze game and drive the ball around your living room. Draw on the phone and the robot traces out the movements on the floor. Swing your arm and play hallway golf. Sit on your couch and chase the cat around the house. The ball, Sphero, needs a logo.
While Sphero can appeal to folks of all ages we suspect it will be the geek dads and teen boys. That said we don't want to turn off girls. Since Sphero is an open platform any app developer can simply write an app that moves Sphero in the real world. So who knows what will be created. The logo can't turn off either men or women. Our market are those folks that are cool enough to own a smartphone and it is an integral part of their life (think Android, iPhone, Blackberry, etc...).
PLEASE READ MY COMMENTS ON PROJECT!
We need the native files - whatever format you design in.
We need files suitable for print (CMYK) and web.
Must not clash with Orbotix logo but color choice is yours. (http://www.orbotix.com).
Here is a video of it in action (this is a prototype - the real one will be translucent- and note we changed the company name from Gearbox to Orbotix. So this is us with over 100K views on Youtube in just a few days after we uploaded it back in August)
More than stylized text - but the text should be the focal point.
Not toy like. Not childlike. Think game platform like Xbox, Wii, PS3. But a new category - so don't simply modify their logos.
Convey motion would be nice, but not necessary.
This will be used on our web site and packaging.
Heavy reflection or 3D orbs - are not hitting the mark now that we have several submissions - think text as focal with a clean 2D icon will work best.
Please provide logo in B&W as well as color.
No clip art or stock images.
