Casual beachfront dining,Tin Cup is situated on the majestic Chesapeake Bay known for its beauty and bounty and is a very important feature for the ecology and economy. Created by an impact event 35 million years ago, the Bay is mostly known for its seafood production and its salinity is ideal for oysters. Approximately 200 miles long, three salinity zones exist: oligohaline (little to no salt), mesohaline (medium salt) and polyhaline (salty as sea water) producing some of the world’s best oysters. And, as you take in your surroundings, you will begin to quickly appreciate the rich military history Hampton Roads has to offer. Home to the world largest naval station, you will watch carriers, destroyers and submarines heading to sea or returning home. In the early years, the original Tin Cup was one of the most essential parts of the military issued mess kit. It helped keep the soldiers healthy and many said the whisky tasted much better when served from a Tin Cup.
