The Montessori Primary programme reflects the special needs of the 6-12 year old child. This is a period of stability after the rapid developments of the first 6 years of life and before the upheavals of puberty.
At this stage children are thirsty for knowledge. They want to know everything about everything. They can cope with research and begin to understand cause and effect. During this plane of development they move towards ever more abstract concepts.
Dr. Maria Montessori was concerned to develop the whole child. Montessori education encourages children to develop a sense of social purpose towards the community and environment, as well as moral responsibility. Children learn in a holistic framework in which everything interconnects: climate, crops, culture, architecture etc. This encourages them to see themselves as part of a much bigger picture, one to which they can and should contribute constructively.
We are opening our Primary School Unit in an new location and want to create a new image that empowers our Montessori community (parents, children, teachers) with passion to grow and learn.
Our School is based in New Zealand and we would like to use a symbol that represents where the school is located on the North Shore of Auckland. If possible, we would like the image of Rangitoto Island in the logo. Pictures of Rangitoto Island can be found at:
We will want to use the logo to print on our school uniforms, so it must be something that can be embroidered onto a shirt.
