How Drewby H started their logo design journey
Metrohiker is not an iPhone app and it's not a coupon book. It provides its customers with a 100% recycled card that can be presented at exclusively-local, environmentally friendly businesses that offer Metrohiker cardholders unique discounts. With the Metrohiker card in hand you can carpool in a taxi with your friends for the price of just one passenger, enjoy one of your favorite cafe's sandwiches and get a free smoothie, get 15% off customized organic t-shirts, or lay back and enjoy the show at the local cinema cafe for half price. Cardholders can redeem great discounts like these once a day for a full year, with more great businesses and local communities to be added soon. Metrohiker was created with people and the planet in mind. Our core values involve promoting healthy communities and environmental sustainability. We think we can help out by encouraging consumers to spend money in the right places - saving cash, and the planet. We want to make a big impact, not a big carbon footprint. The Metrohiker card is the key to bustling communities and a greener world - and it's all kinds of sustainable. It's something so simple, but it does so much. People enjoy their communities using environmentally friendly forms of transportation, and great local companies that work hard to operate sustainably get more business than ever.
Tell us a bit about who you are and the people you reach
Metrohikers are savvy, youthful, active consumers who value a healthy community, sustainable environmental practices, and their pocketbook.
Given the forward-thinking and often economically-limited university student populations, they will comprise a major part of the Metrohiker demographic. Full-time students are normally without a primary source of income. Far from making money, in fact, students find themselves accumulating large sums of debt and student loans. Needless to say, a dollar spent may mean much more to a college student than to a working professional. Also, the educational landscape of college campuses is rich with environmentally and community conscious individuals (aligning with Metrohiker.com's forward-thinking philosophies). Moreover, the typically youthful age range for college students also lends to them being very physically active (ready to explore the community). Recent graduates and other consumers who maintain a lifetime dedication to environmentally friendly, locally-based activity should also be considered part of the target audience as we hope to bring in active people of all ages. Travelers are also a big part of our target audience as we hope to partner with transportation businesses (airlines, trains, buses). Our customers are also very active in online social networking communities like Facebook.
I require the creation of a logo that includes an image that embodies the company's core philosophies of environmental (and economical) sustainability and healthy community building. Also included would be metrohiker.com's slogan: "explore your community".At the time of delivering the winning logo design, it would also be required that each individual component of the complete logo (including the text-image, "metrohiker", and the slogan: "explore your community") be submitted separately. furthermore, a logo image not including the slogan would also be desired (that is, just the logo image and the text: "metrohiker"). all in all, this would add up to be 5 separate image files. no text work is necessary. only the production of the mentioned, printable logos.Thoughts: My motivation for the design would be both the NYC "subway" text and the adventurous idea behind exploring your local community and travelling to other communities also. Key ideas to embody are: action, exploration, adventure, sustainability, community. Do not include: Photographs, money symbols, anything referring to college age students. Possible ideas: hiking boots in motion. We would like the "metrohiker" text to be bold (bubble?) and clear, preferably a red color text.FILES; we like gtrot's, one very simple, low quality metrohiker logo that is just a guide; NYC "subway" text and signs as motivation
