Sunlight Sports is a well-established premium outdoor retailer located in the east gate community of Yellowstone National Park - Cody, WY. We have been in business for 39 years, providing gear and clothing for hiking, climbing, skiing and snowboarding in the our local mountains and Yellowstone. We carry top-tier brands like Patagonia, TNF, Burton and Osprey.
The store will be moving to the next generation of the family this spring, and we are looking for a new logo to tie into the transition.
We focus on providing the best possible gear backed by experienced advice for a wide variety of outdoor endeavors. During the summer, we focus on rock climbing, hiking, backpacking and living the outdoor life. In the winter, our focus shifts to skiing, snowboarding and ice climbing.
We love our customers, and try to treat everyone - no matter their experience, age, or personal outdoor experience - like a respected family member. We have a huge range of people come into the shop, and need to be approachable while maintaining our premium positioning.
We have a lot of room to play, locally. Our town is on the edge of the largest intact ecosystem in the lower 48. There are big mountains, cold alpine streams, deep snow and large deserts all within an hour of our store's front door. Yellowstone is just down the road.
This logo will be used in store, on the web, and on store-branded clothing, as well as in print advertising.
We have a clear understanding of our customers...they really come in three types.
1. Local summer customers. Cody is a destination town, filled with longtime residents who work a variety of jobs, and ringed with trophy ranches and mountain homes owned by a slightly wealthier demographic. Our summertime locals generally come into our shop looking for gear to go up into the local mountains or to get items that reflect the local outdoor ethos. There are a significant number of highly skilled outdoorspeople balanced by a group of people just getting into the sport.
2. Summer tourists. We have more than 1MM people come through town in the summer thanks to Yellowstone. The customers that come into the shop range from tourists wandering around with ice cream to people coming in looking for suggestions on outdoor activities in the area. They come from every imaginable background, and are looking for outdoor expertise.
3. Winter locals. Since Yellowstone's east gate closes in the winter, the vast majority of customers in the winter are locals looking for snowsports gear or clothing with which to deal with our frigid weather. The skiers are looking for premium products, but ofter have families to outfit.
The logo should be able to be executed in color or in B + W, We are looking for something that could be reproducible on clothing by screen or stitch.
We might like to lightly reference the old logo. It's not good, but there might be some design elements that we could pick up so that it's not a total miss for our established customers. The old logo is attached below. With that being said, if you can't make that work please be creative here. I would rather have a good logo than get stuck because we too tied to this as a reference.
We will be using this to relaunch our old, old website. Please don't go there - it's embarrassing. You just went there, didn't you?
Our store is old burnished wood, stainless steel and dark green carpet. The logo should not be out of place there.
We are looking for a logo that reflects the following vibes:
