Design Brief for EarsBrainMouth.com Business purpose: Help organizations use all facets of communication to deeply connect with their stakeholders to grow mutually beneficial relationships. [Stakeholders are the people we depend on and who depend on us] Problem statement: Many public relations (PR) practitioners are great at using tactics, such as press releases, media interviews, social media posts, collateral materials, etc. But these are merely pieces of the puzzle. In order to be more effective, communicators need to see the bigger picture. This means thinking strategically, understanding their stakeholders, planning, and connecting their work with an organization’s bottom line. EarsBrainMouth will provide resources to help them bridge this gap and become more effective and valuable to their organizations. Why the name: EarsBrainMouth represents the essence of my model of effective stakeholder relations. That is, we should listen to our stakeholders (Ears), understand their values and needs (Brain), and only then speak (Mouth). This is the core message. Tagline: Listen.Think.Speak URL: EarsBrainMouth.com Business descriptors: • Key element: Content will be educational and immediately usable in business, but also will be accessible by a broad audience. It will be easy to understand, not academic or technical • Content will take the form of blog posts, ebooks, and online courses • Content will also be presented in a fun, approachable way, so it’s enjoyable and conversational • Some of the content will be controversial, in that it will challenge conventional PR practices and assumptions, but it also will be respectful, welcoming, and engaging for anyone who wants to learn • In the future, content may be delivered in person via workshops and consulting services Customers: • Primary customers are mid-career communication professionals (perhaps 30-45 years old) who want to move beyond PR tactics to focus on communication that has strategic impact • Secondary customers are small business owners who want to communicate effectively, but can’t afford to hire a PR agency Visual identity descriptors: • Logo should be simple, not necessarily literal or obvious, but memorable • Logo should work alone, but also with a name, URL, or tagline lock-up • Logo should be reducible to use at small scale, such as on business cards or mobile devices without losing its clear identity • Primary use will be electronic, to brand the website, ebooks, emails, and videos • Can be a word mark, pictorial mark, abstract mark, or character • Consider using a strong orange (tangerine) or yellow (safety yellow) to convey the dynamic nature of communication and to signify/spark action, though these color choices are not absolute
