Simon's Fund raises awareness about the warning signs and conditions that lead to sudden cardiac arrest and death in children. The organization provides free heart screenings for students; advocates for legislation to protect student athletes; promotes research through its cardiac registry of seemingly healthy kids; places AED devices thorough its crowdfunding website; and educates through media and partnerships with athletes and actors. It has been checking hearts and saving lives for twelve years.
Sudden cardiac arrest is not just an adult thing, and in order to raise awareness around the issue, we need to reach the right audience. A discussion about SCA in youth is rare and only occurs when a seemingly healthy student athlete collapses and dies suddenly. The majority of cases happen outside of the public eye. As such, who do we target with our message? Coaches, parents and student athletes are the three groups most impacted by this problem. However, “first responders” are intimately involved once the problem has surfaced. They are the first to see students who have racing hearts or pass out during or after exercise. These are school nurses, pediatricians, sports medicine doctors, athletic trainers and emergency room physicians.
Simon’s Fund has always communicated with parents, but done so in a way that engages and appeals to students. There is a concerted effort to make the tone friendly and message simple. This casual approach allows us to deliver a serious message in a way that is not ominous. We are fact driven. We are rooted in common sense. We employ analogies because they make the science easier to digest. We are always looking for creative and innovate ways to deliver our message. We love “celebrity” messengers.
We have identified a name that better represents our mission while honoring Simon and the good will that Simon’s Fund has created over the last decade. We want to create a logo that captures the attention of the consumer and provides them with a better sense of our purpose and mission, while complimenting the other brands in the Simon’s Fund family.
