Lucena Research
We are a new high tech hedge fund management company. Even so we want our logo to convey a solid, stable, perhaps "old" feeling.
More about us: Unlike old, stodgy companies, we're striving to be open and transparent. We use open source software, and we don't hide our holdings from investors. We're located in Atlanta, Georgia, USA.
The name "Lucena" comes from a chess position in which victory is guaranteed.
It is also related to Lucena Spain, once held by the Moors. It strongly influenced the renaissance.
We have three targets. First and foremost of course would be customers, but we must also convince business partners and future employees that they should work with us.
The logo should convey a trustworthy feeling, perhaps with "bank" overtones, but also high-tech. Although the high-tech aspects should be subdued.
Customers: USA, wealthy, conservative, but with high tech understanding
Business: USA, conservative bankers
Employees: USA, wild computer programmers
One or two colors on a white background.
We would like the main graphical element to be of an object (rook chess piece) or building (castle or fortress) that evokes: ancient, renaissance, money, da Vinci. See attached files for examples.
We're undecided if the initials LR or company name should be integrated into the graphic element, or separately to the side. For now, we're interested/willing to see either approach.
Fonts: We like Georgia, Verdana, Bank Gothic. Fonts you would see on money or in or on old, stable banks.

About the attached files. These are examples of the kinds of design themes we're looking for.
citadel.png: Example logo for a large, famous hedge fund.
soldier-woodcut.jpg: We like this style of woodcut. About the right level of detail. Of course we don't want soldiers.
ship-woodcut.jpg: example style of graphic we'd love to see. It is of a ship though-- not what we want.
