Ekki Banka is a startup company that will give consumers in Iceland a simple and price competitive alternative for their everyday banking. Ekki banka will issue simple payment cards and customers can follow their spending, real-time, in an app. The app has not been designed yet, but envelopes will be part of the feature.

The name “Ekki Banka” is a pun, a joke from an old Icelandic TV show, known to most Icelanders. The word “banka” means both “to knock” and “bank” in Icelandic. In the TV show a man came to the doctor’s office and read from a post-it on the door: “For i banka, ekki banka.” Which literally translated means “Went to the bank, don’t knock.” (you had to be there).

The idea for choosing this name is that the service is ready for your convenience online, you don’t need to knock on any doors, and also to emphasize it is a disruptor in personal banking.

The atmosphere of the brand should be lighthearted, and far from the stuffy feeling of traditional banking and big corporate brands. A slightly comical, quirky, even cartoonish feel would be an interesting avenue to explore.

The targeted customers are those who use simple banking products.

Logo (without the name) should preferably be easy to use as an app icon.
