profandgeek.com is the name of the Web site. A professor and a geek delivering computer job skills.
I am a female professor (PhD) of business technology at a large California college and write popular business technology textbooks. I love helping my students gain skills that will help them get a good job. I want to offer inexpensive training modules that teach important computer skills that are necessary for employment in contemporary organizations--to those that haven't the time or money to attend college to upgrade skills. For example, small modules that teach how to use instant messaging in business, or teach how to build Excel formulas or teach email conventions. I want to convey that I am "the real deal" a real professor with proven ability to write good instructon (published textbooks), and to convey that I am also a "geek" and enjoy helping people understand technologies that are necessary to get a good job.
Individuals who know they need "computer skills" to get a job or get a better job, and have a basic computer, but are not sure what skills they need. Individuals who do not have the time or money or know-how to attend college, but want to get started in learning some important computer skills at a very low cost. People who have been absent from the workplace for a while (mothers, retirees looking to return to work) and people who are not sure how to attend a community college or get training. People who are not sure or confident about learning new things. And finally, individuals who need some personal assistance. Purchasing a module will include an amount of live help (phone, chat, im, etc.). Not sure how or if that would be included in a logo.
1-Denote both a "professor" and a "geek"--two images. Convey that people will "learn" from a qualified professor and a qualified technology person.
2-No cartoons, not cutesy.
3-Professional and contemporary.
4-Prefer earth tones (yellow, gold, orange, tan, green, olive, khaki) over reds or blues.
