Sustainable Harvest got their new logo design by running a design contest:
Design an innovative and modern logo for a successful 17 year old environmental non-profit

"Planting Hope." is our tagline but we don't use it everywhere consistently--it doesn't have to be incorporated into the logo but we would like to see an example of what a logo that incorporates "Planting Hope." might look like.
Sustainable Harvest International provides farming families in Central America with the training and tools to preserve our planet’s tropical forests while overcoming poverty. Our success comes from our long-term environmental and humanitarian commitment and methodology that leads to self-sufficiency and independence in 5 years. Our small-scale local approaches and local trainers create massive and measurable impacts. As an organization, we’ve been around for 17 years and have had great success with our programs in 4 countries in Central America, which has led to securing support from our lively community of committed donors.
Logo types to explore
The logo should be modern, simple, and concise. Associated imagery could be trees, families, and fruit/produce, though we don’t want our logo to be too complex and/or literal (that is to say we hope that the new logo will look quite different than our current one). Imagery should be symbolic and simple. Related phrases might be: organic, sustainable, farming, food, agriculture, community, education, transformational, long-term and empowerment. As our programs may be expanding we’d prefer not to have any geographically specific elements represented in the logo. The logo should be empowering, natural, bountiful, strong, welcoming—ultimately, it should convey a sense of hope. We often go by SHI and thus would like to see a design that has our full name spelled out and also has the SHI acronym. The logo should contain an image that is unique, recognizable, and valuable beyond the name of our organization. The logo should be able to stand alone as well as with our name. We’d like to see it in black and white in addition to a single or multi-color version. Our target audience is donors and donor aggregators—people interested in environmental issues and poverty-alleviation. Our target audience is 28+ thus we want our logo to look mature and professional—a logo that will be taken seriously and reflect our many years of expertise. We do not have a particular font that needs to be used--we are open. We've uploaded some photos that illustrate our work and our current logo. Some of our competitors are: Heifer International, One Acre Fund, the Nature Conservancy, the Rainforest Alliance, Trees, Water & People, and Agros--we want our logo to stand out from theirs just as our work does.
