Citizens Matter
Citizens Matter is a non profit organization that helps citizens organize around progressive community values. The project is centred around democracy and engaging citizens around progressive community values at the civic (local/city) level of government. The project is based in Canada.
Being a citizen means caring for the place we live and wanting to make it better. However, like doing the dishes, being a citizen means engaging in shaping the place we live in. It requires people to be involved.
We live in a period of time where fewer people are participating in one of the fundamental components we use to run our communities – elections. Fewer people are voting in elections all across North America.
People feel disconnected from their community, their province and their nation. Cynicism of electoral politics (the act of deciding those who will run our governments) is very high, and yet when asked, more people are seeking community and connection.
What is often missing is genuine engagement – what is missing is the connection and result of being a citizen. When people are involved in creating, shaping and improving their community, then citizens matter.
The target audience are citizens that care about their community. They are not specifically activists. However they share progressive values (concern for their environment, equality, social justice, freedom, etc...), and are more interested in working together to find solutions for their community.
We are looking for a logo for a new program called "Citizens Matter."
Logo should capture the philosophy in "tell us about yourself section." Note comments in the "target audience." Logo should NOT be edgy, aggressive or activist-looking. This not anti-business, but pro-community values that are warm, friendly and welcoming.
Currently we are using a blue that fits very well with our other materials and we would encourage designers to use it: C=86 M=61 Y=0 K=0, but please consider that this graphic will be used on the web and in print (in both coated and uncoated print jobs). We are currently using white text on the blue. As well in our work books we are using a second colour: C=57 M=44 Y=100 K=27 (see attached screen capture). But this is not mandatory to include.
The logo should easily incorporate the name of the program "Citizens Matter", but also be able to stand alone. We favour minimalism over clutter and we like vibrancy over pastel.
For those desigers from outside North America, please note that the project is Canadian and NOT American, but DO NOT feature a Canadian flag.
The project is about democracy and citizens being engaged to make their local community a better place. As we said in the "target audience" section, people are engaged around progressive values.
We look forward to your inspired designs!
