Sustainable Surplus Exchange
We are a NEW nonprofit with an excellent reason for being: reduction of waste by creating awareness AND reduction of the sense of entitlement of having to have "new." In these economic times, we should collectively be OK using second-hand computers, furniture, labcoats, etc. in our schools, et al.
Everyone on our team is donating their time to get this puppy launched!
Our Mission Statement: The Sustainable Surplus Exchange was founded to support and build awareness of sustainability in industry by fostering the donation of non-used surplus assets back into the community for use, thus reducing the carbon footprint of waste, while balancing the economics of consumption.
Description: The Exchange supports the goals of the community to be ‘green and sustainable.’
The Exchange provides a service to help companies recycle their assets back into the community of non-profit organizations including but not limited to schools, colleges and universities, churches and community organizations; and secondly, for-profit, limited-fund (start-up) life science companies through the donation channel.
Donor Target Market: We want ALL companies and industry organizations to donate. Life science companies are a primary target because they have so much turn-over and transistion. But we know all organizations may have non-used assets, sitting there collecting dust or heading to the dumper.
Recipient Targets: schools, colleges and universities as well as churches, charter schools, libraries, any nonprofit and charitable that could benefit from "free" assets, like Scouts, pet/animal support organizations, and so on.
The main message we need the logo to impart is Sustainability. We are promoting a green, better environment by reducing waste. This really is a great cause, evoking goodwill and good conscience.
That said, the recycling symbol (3 arrows) is over-used. It's CONCEPT can be used.
1. Our name is a strong part of the logo
Name really says what we do
2. Font we are presently using is Candara.
Font needs to be clean, but interesting. Nothing foofy.
We like simple, elegant -- not a cartoon effect.
3. Color we are using: teal (combines blue sky/green earth)
Color does not need to be teal, but "green" is over-used.
Prefer muted tones over loud red/oranges/gold
4. logos we like: http://www.sustainability.com/ and http://esi.ucsd.edu/
logos we DON't like: http://www.longwood.edu/2009releases_7984.htm and http://sandiegoroots.org/
The files we will require are (please us me know if there are others we'll need!):
Print file format - .ai (CMYK)
Web file format - .jpg and layered .psd (RGB)
and/or png
Use of stock images or clip art in the logo is OK if it's creative, but not preferred.
Did we give too much information? Hope Not! We encourage creativity! Thanks!!
NOTE: we were unable to unload a file to show name
