Our latest app, Learn Cryptic Crosswords, teaches people how to solve cryptic crosswords.
For non-UK designers, a 'cryptic' crossword has clues where the answer is hidden or obscure, rather than being stated plainly.
An example might be:
Eat rump steak in hiding, Donald (5).
The definition is Donald, and the answer is TRUMP, because hiding in the clue is the word '...t rump...'.
Delicate lager if blended (7)
The definition is 'delicate' and the answer is an anagram of 'lager if'
('blended' is the hint that you need to mix the letters up in an anagram)
Solving clues needs some thought, and training, which is where the app comes in.
The current icon is a company logo, and does not convey the content or aim of the app. (Note that the app is a collaboration between two companies - Teazel and CZD.)
The revised icon must emphasise TWO ideas:
1. Learning - i.e. thinking / mental challenge / solving
2. Crossword - i.e. puzzle / clues / grid
It should not contain the name of either company, but may use the colours of CZD. The current app theme is predominantly understated blue.
There is no requirement for internationalised versions, since the content is English.
