http://www.ForEntrepreneurs.com - Expertise, Wisdom & Resources for entrepreneurs
I am a serial entrepreneur, turned Venture Capitalist. As an entrepreneur, I founded 4 companies, and did one turnaround. 3 of those companies went public. After 25 years in that role, I wanted to help other entrepreneurs, so I switched to the "dark side" and became a VC. For the last 8 years I have been investing in startups and helping their management teams. An example would be the Open Source company JBoss, where I helped the management team build the company from $1m in revenues to $65m in revenues in two and a half years. (JBoss was then acquired by Red Hat.)
My motives in building this site are to provide a place where I and fellow experienced entrepreneurs can share their wisdom and experiences with new entrepreneurs. Over time, I would like it to become the pre-eminent resource for startups and entrepreneurs on the web, with a lot of vibrant discussion.
It is not a corporate site, and will never be used sell anything. It is a personal site, in some ways like a blog, but with many of the entries remaining relevant over very long periods of time, so placed on web pages rather than blog posts (which tend to be time sensitive, and expire fast).
Since I work for a VC firm, I would like the look of the site to be elegant, classy, sophisticated, and professional, but also modern.
The Logo that is on the current site, was a quick throw away design, please feel free to replace with your own.
Entrepreneurs and executives working in High Tech startup companies that plan to, or have already, raised Angel funding, or Venture Capital, and have a goal of becoming a leader in their particular space.
Design goals: elegant, classy, sophisticated, and professional, but also modern.
I need a web site, as opposed to a blogging site. The web site will have four main sections (see http://www.forentrepreneurs.com to find out what these are), plus a blog page. Under each of these sections, I will have sub-pages.
I want the home page to help make it clear what the structure of the site is, and where to find appropriate information that the reader is looking for.
Keep my main content section 610 pixels wide. It should allow the content to standout, and not overpower the content. Based on the graphics that I need to use, I would like the main content section to have a white background, as I will use diagram elements that blend to white.
I would like a Flash element on the Home page that has four panels to explain the four main sections of the site, with a nice graphic for each one that rotates through. See http://www.sliderocket.com for the look that I am after. I want the design to include the design for those four panels. ( I understand the flash coding is not included.)
To get a feel for company web site where I work, visit http://www.matrixpartners.com. It could be interesting to use look and feel from that site, but not necessary. But this will give a feeling for a design that liked, and worked with a design team to create.
