Company name

We work on many projects, not just one, however you can find more about me, the guy who writes the brief at http://www.zaGeex.ro

Overview

I'm a web developer and full-time geek, together with friends and colleagues we work on many interesting projects, from blogs to charity organizations. We feel the need to have a brand for all our projects. As the projects are more than one, and we want to tie all of them together, we decided we will go with a character that will be our spoke person, our mascot. The character will be a geeky sheep.

Why a sheep? For some reason my friends started calling me "the sheep" and I have had a sheep as an avatar for many years and many know me by the avatar. We want to take the next step with it and make it into a true brand(s) ambassador. This sheep has to be able to speak to the world about the projects it supports. See the requirements section for more details about it.

Why we choose a character and not a standard logo? Because we love brands that have a character to speak for them. We were first inspired by the creators of Fredo and Pidjin (http://www.pidjin.net/) who gave a very convincing talk at a conference back in 2008. Some examples we like are: the chimp from Mail Chimp, the Twitter Fail wail, Geicko the Gecko, the Energezier bunny or the Firefox fox. Some more examples are here: http://bit.ly/axHhGS and http://bit.ly/cZewcc

Help us create a spoke person for our projects that will match our ambitions with it's funny nature, geeckiness and a touch of weirdness.

Tell us a bit about who you are and the people you reach

As our projects are very different it's hard to define a target audience.
However, we want to focus, in all our projects, on active (read sporty) people, who are just a touch cool, and weird enough to think that a sheep in boots is funny and trustworthy for a spokesperson.

To give you an idea about the projects we do - one of them is a foodie website, another one is a fitness training program for riders, we work also on a couple of specialized blogs about mountain biking and skiing.

Requirements

The character/mascot must be a sheep

It must be: funny, geeky, mischievous and a little bit weird. Our sheep is cool, and it knows it.
If possible, it has to have a hand-drown feel, but at the same time it should look crisp and fit to be on a website, not in a coloring book.

If you think it fits the theme, the sheep will wear glasses and have boots on its feet.

It must be easy to draw as a doodle (I mean that we don't want a photo-realistic sheep, a 5 year old should be able to make an accurate enough doodle out of it, something like Mickey Mouse is).

The colors must be happy, natural looking, more watercolor feel than computer drown. We prefer the sheep to be white, and you can use green, red, yellow or any other natural color.

You will need to match a type-face to the style of the sheep

The sheep has to be versatile enough to be able to be used in different situations (see below)

For the first part of the contest I only want 1 pose of the ones below, but the winner will get (for an additional fee) to do the other two poses.
1) Just standing on all 4 legs and looking toward whoever is looking at it (something like this http://bit.ly/bHENLe)
2) Looking over a fence / wall. That fence should be easily replaceable with a banner, logo (something like this http://bit.ly/9TDsOr)
3) Holding a sign, heaving a dialog bubble over it's head, to be able to say something (something like this http://bit.ly/aKFkeP) Here you will also have to match a type-face to the style of the sheep.

Attached you will find my current avatar (sheep.png) and the pictures referenced here. We like the avatar a lot, we would like our spokesperson to be a natural evolution from it.
You will also find attached 3 more photos (sheep_1,jpg, sheep_2,jpg and sheep_3,jpg) of some sheep magnets and piggy banks I have at home. You might find them useful.
