Who is GEN? The Global Ecovillage Network (GEN) is a growing network of sustainable communities and initiatives that bridge different cultures, countries, and continents. GEN serves as umbrella organization for ecovillages, transition town initiatives, intentional communities, and ecologically-minded individuals worldwide. Tag line: "Connecting communities for a sustainable future" Mission The Global Ecovillage Network envisions a world of empowered citizens and communities, designing and implementing their own pathways to a sustainable future, and building bridges of hope and international solidarity. Vision As a solution-based, multi-stakeholder alliance, GEN provides information, tools, examples and global representation to the expanding network of those dedicated to developing and demonstrating sustainability principles and practices in their lifestyles and communities around the world Audience: Through the sharing of best practices and innovative solutions and the honouring of deep-rooted traditional knowledge and local cultures, GEN builds bridges between policy-makers, governments, academics, entrepreneurs, sustainable community networks and citizens across the globe in order to develop strategies for a global transition to resilient communities and cultures. Practically -- we'd like people who build and live in ecovillages, and those who wish to learn about and join them, to feel right at home on our site. At the same time, we wish to convey a sense of internationalism and professionalism that speaks to our UN involvement, large-scale management of projects, global reach, and world changing ambitions. This should appeal to government officials who want to hire our consultancy, grant foundations, and academics who wish to study ecovillages. So beautiful and inviting, but clean cut and trustworthy. Natural while professional. Warm and personal while operationally successful on a global scale.

Hello, and thank you for your consideration of this project! :) I am writing from the Global Ecovillage Network (GEN), a registered NGO that helps people connect to, learn about, and build sustainable communities around the world. We are interested to improve on our logo and brand identity. Our current logo is attached as 'logoGEN'. Also attached is a mockup that was made which might represent a better layout; it is titled 'GEN logo improvement'. The logo must be friendly to being in a website header, must be easily readable at a variety of sizes, and it should look good on both the web and in print. It is important that we preserve including a butterfly; it is a symbol of transformation that the organization wishes to continue using. If it is in an arc or orbit, it's nice, because it implies motion around the globe. We are open to your artistic and design sense on this as well, so if you have a different take, let's talk about it or take a look at it! The colors are fully open to interpretation. I am pretty sure we want blue/greenish blue in there, so it appeals to the nature focused component of our mission. Here is our new website (in development) for reference: https://new.ecovillage.org click on ‘login’ user: viewer pw: ecowebsite Also just for your reference, the font we are using for titles is Ubuntu, and for main text is Open Sans. You can of course use any font at all which you think best communicates the brand of GEN! Attached is a tag cloud that was generated by an internal survey as values that we want our logo and brand to embody/evoke. A few more words to describe what we'd like to evoke: Iconic, global, transformation, solidarity, collaboration, movement, diversity, sustainability, credibility As you can see ecology and global are the most important aspects, with quite a few relating to cooperation, energizing, and coming together. ...All this said, we don't want it to look like a "hippy" logo. We want it to be beautiful while also looking like the logo of an accomplished global non-profit organization you know and trust. We would like the butterfly to look much less generic, and possibly more alive. (Open to interpretations here as well though of course!) Additionally, if you are up to it, what do you think about making the design on the butterfly wings include a map of the earth? Could be a way to reinforce our global scope of operation, and to communicate through the icon "transform the world"! Up to you if you think this is the best way to convey our global focus. I attached a few butterfly images I found, just for reference. Just for reference, I also attached a number of other clean, sharp, beautiful logo examples that some of us appreciate. We would like the final logo design in: full color, one color, reverse color, and one of our color logo in combination with our tag line. We will also need a very simple icon version that shows just the butterfly and the letters GEN inside or beside it, such as the attached 'GEN icon'. Next Phase: Regional Logos Once the Branding Kit for this logo is completed -- *Celebration!!* there is something else we'd like to work with you on. :) GEN has 6 geographic regions -- South America, North America, Africa, Europe, Asia, and the Fertile Crescent (Middle East) -- plus 1 youth focused project called NextGEN -- which each require updated logos. We would like for them to look like they are from the same "family" as the main logo, so they can be mostly the same in many ways, perhaps with a little bit of flair in color or style; in the butterfly type, design, number, or position; in the font, color, or feel, etc. Something subtly unique for each regional logo. I can provide more detail about the regions later, once we get there. Just to get a sense attached is some reference, called 'Regional Logos and NextGEN.' So -- that is the summary of the logo we are looking for, and the scope of the whole project. Hopefully in combination with the other fields we filled in, and your awesome design insight, you'll have what you need to see what we're looking for! Please let me know if there are any questions, concerns, or ideas! We very much look forward to your bids for this project. Thank you! - Christopher
