tonimcclintock got their new book cover by running a design contest:
New Paris novel needs catchy, fun book cover!
Check out tonimcclintock's Book cover contest…
The target audience for this book is people who are interested in spending time abroad with their families or people who like reading about life in Paris. I'm guessing that females would be the most likely audience. It is a novel but also the final chapters summarize the benefits and challenges of spending time abroad, the stages of culture shock and adaptation, and lasting effects of the experience.
What's your vision?
Need a catchy, fun, and colorful book cover for a novel/memoir about my family's two years living in Paris, France (hopefully funny) with my diary entries interspersed. It is written from my point of view (the Mom). We are a family of five. Husband, wife, 3 kids ages 5 (girl), 8 (boy), and 11 (girl) in the story. The title is “All Abroad!” which is a pun on the “All Aboard” train call. (The train, in this case, would be the Paris Metro or the TGV, the bullet train of France.) The subtitle is “Three Kids, Two Years, One New Perspective” And under that: An American Family in Paris by Toni McClintock. It will be published as an e-book but also print on demand so I need a spine and a back cover with a blurb (I will provide blurb). The back cover will also have a photo of us on it. To explain what I like and don't like in the attachments below: the first two were attempts by my daughter to design a cover but they obviously were not professional enough. The next four are ideas for the way I'd like us to look if we're on the cover, but as I said, that is not required. The next ones are some book covers I like - along the same lines of my book theme, until the last five -which are ideas for pictures that could be used in a "collage theme" like #11, 12 or 13. I obviously like both drawings and photos for book covers, I also like map designs for covers like #10. I like pastel colors better than primary, especially light greens and light blues for the background. That being said, the red, white and blue theme could also work. I'm not ruling anything out! I want it to seem like a fun, easy book to read, and the cover to attract people. I definitely want French-looking fonts. I also like doodle-design borders (see #9 below) around the title or subtitle (but again not required). Go for it! Do whatever your creative minds think of! I can't wait to see them!!!
What we look like: (But the cover doesn't have to have a family on it at all – just if someone wants to do that, it doesn't even necessarily have to look like us, or it could be the backs of us, or a shadow...) We are American, from Santa Barbara, California. Me - hip, young Mom (haha), light brownish, blondish hair Husband – hip, light brown hair, taller than me by a half a foot Oldest kid: girl – long, brown, wavy hair, 11 years old, about up to my shoulder in terms of height Middle kid – boy – short blonde hair, 8 years old, Youngest – girl – long blonde wavy hair, 5 years old, height about up to my waist
