We are looking for a cover for the first book in a series about a former attorney turned unlicensed private detective in New York City. The title is "In the Country of the Blind." The book is a suspense thriller about a murder, and has a film noir feel to it. It is not about a world domination type plot or a "master criminal."
The victim is found hanged, not with a rope, but with a beautiful piece of fabric that has been made into a noose. There is for a time a suspicion of sexual foul play, but that's not what it ends up being.
New York City is very much a looming presence in the novel.
We have a sample idea which you can look at. It uses an iStockphoto image that we like a lot, but we don't want to use the rope in the image. If there is a way to photoshop the rope, very well, so that it is replaced with what looks like a beautiful piece of silk in a muted tone, with an intricate pattern on it (Asian or Indian - as in the country, not Native American) that would work. If you want to try to do something with that photo, you can use the watermarked version for now. The iStockphoto File # is 4108111. We have a photo we created with a model using a piece of fabric. This photo can be utilized if you want to give that a try. We have two covers that CreateSpace designed using that photo, but we're not ultimately happy with what they did.
We do very much like the use of the New York Skyline, but it might be nice to see it as a ghostly underlay, rather than so prominent and detailed. We also like the gritty concrete-like font in the second of the samples.
We would like to see ideas based on the uploads, but we're also very open to new ideas.
If anyone wanted to read a bit of the book to get an idea of the tone, the first 5 chapters are available at http://www.matthewarkin.com/uploads…art5ch.pdf
The logo for Hawkshaw Books has been uploaded, to show something about the personality of the imprint. This logo will need to appear on the spine, and the back cover, along with the bar code. There is also a file of the copy for the back cover.
