I need a book cover design for my young adult science fiction novel, “Aladdin: The Genie’s Keeper.” It is the third book in my book series and aimed at readers ages 14 and older. I have included the book cover for the second book as well as a very simple, mock cover for “Aladdin” to give a better sense of the structure.
The book cover will be for both an e-book and print paperback. I will need .JPGs for the final e-book cover and a PDF for the final paperback cover (including spine and back cover). The paperback will be used for Createspace, dimensions 5.5x8.5 inches. I will give the dimensions for the spine width during the final stages as I will acquire this information from my formatter.
Going from bottom to top, here are elements of the “Aladdin” cover.
At the bottom, there should be sand, rocks, and possibly shrubs as commonly seen in a desert. Specifically, deserts in the American west, such as parts of Nevada or California. It can be beige, orange, even reddish, or yellow-beige. Over the desert will be my author name, GIBSON MORALES. The font can be similar to the author name on “The Boy Who Wields Thunder.” This can be in white, though the final color may change (maybe to gold).
In the background, above the sand, there should be a city on one side (left). The city can be based on either Las Vegas or Los Angeles with buildings/structures in ruins and decaying. The idea is that this is a city after years of war. The buildings/structures can be skyscrapers, apartments, high rises, stores, maybe highways, and so on. On the other side of the cover (right) should be pyramids-the pyramids of Giza, which are part of the story. They can be gleaming gold, as these are meant to be the pyramids as seen hundreds of years ago. There can also be a small obelisk. Ideally these are illustrated in a quality similar to the cover of “The Boy Who Wields Thunder.” It should look realistic and detailed.
You will also notice the black figure on the right side (keep him on the right side). This is meant to be Aladdin’s silhouette. Aladdin can simply be shown running or standing. It is not necessary to show his face or any major details, just a dark silhouette. His size may need to be adjusted, but it should be roughly the size of the silhouette used for “The Boy Who Wields Thunder” cover.
The sky/backdrop color can be light blue, like on a very bright, sunny day.
The title is “ALADDIN THE GENIE’S KEEPER”. “ALADDIN” will be the largest font. Beneath it, “THE” can be smaller. Beneath that “GENIE’S” and “KEEPER” can be larger than “THE” but slightly smaller than “ALADDIN”. As for the font style and color, there is some flexibility. It shouldn’t be too thick, but it should reflect that Aladdin is a science fiction adventure novel based on the old fairy tale. The color could be white/silverish (example: https://www.amazon.com/Infinity-Reb…XWK88S/ref or https://www.amazon.com/Faeries-Curs…AFVZXI/ref ) OR shiny gold (example: http://www.openlettersmonthly.com/i…-cover.jpg or https://www.amazon.com/Broken-Compa…9N2BAC/ref or https://www.amazon.com/Journey-Fire…9SUOOI/ref ).
Above the title, are simply the words “BOOK 3 IN” followed by the logo for “The Aldrinverse”. The logo is supplied and doesn’t need to be changed, except for the size. It should be similar in size to the logo used for “The Boy Who Wields Thunder.” “BOOK 3 IN” can be the color dark grey/black, similar in font to whatever font is used for “GIBSON MORALES”. The font can also be similar to that used for the author name on “The Boy Who Wields Thunder.”
Additionally, a couple minor details can be added later on-a small, gray falcon somewhere in the sky. Also, the black object in the top right corner of the mock cover image is an alien mothership-again, this can be added at a later stage-I will describe it as necessary.
Lastly, the paperback’s back cover can be done in the final stages. It will be fairly simple and easy. Mostly just a continuation of the sand from the front cover with the same sky, some added text (which I will mention later), website names, and so forth. The spine will also be similar.
