How volkmorpheus started their book cover journey
The Surgeon's Curse
Douglas Volk is a veteran corporate executive who writes dark thrillers that are “hard to put down” (Maine Sunday Telegram). Volk uses the tools of business to build his thrillers from the ground up, by assembling a team of specialists with firsthand knowledge of his novel’s subject material. Thanks to this “team approach,” his paranormal crime thrillers have often been praised for their credibility and convincingly realistic detail.
Douglas Volk lives in Maine with his wife of more than 45 years. They have two adult children and five grandchildren.
The Surgeon's Curse starts in an Atlanta sleep lab, when a PhD researcher discovers to her horror that a curse-driven maniac has learned how to sneak into other people's nightmares and destroy them while they sleep. Powered by "The Curse of Morpheus," the serial killer uses his paranormal gift -- known as "somnambulistic telepathy" -- to invade a sleeper's nightmares. Now the researcher must find a way to stop the maniac from using his occult power to kill her and the man she loves -- a skilled Boston homicide detective known as "The Professor". But how can she hope to prevent the killing . . . when the murders take place while the victims are asleep?
The target reader is any adult who enjoys suspenseful thrillers and/or the paranormal.

Book Cover for Psychothriller - The Surgeon’s Curse
This project is a cover for a paperback book. The book is a paranormal psychothriller in which a psychopathic killer is the victim of a curse. This curse has given the killer the paranormal ability - known as Somnambulistic Telepathy - to travel in and out of other people’s dreams. In those dreams, he is able to terrorize his victims and even to kill them in reality.
The Surgeon’s Curse is the second book in a series titled The Morpheus Series. The first book in the series is The Morpheus Conspiracy. It’s very important that the cover of The Surgeon’s Curse match the look and feel of the cover of The Morpheus Conspiracy. I am uploading the cover file of The Morpheus Conspiracy to be used as a model. I would like the fonts and colors of the title, etc., and their placement to match the first book cover.
If you look at the spine of The Morpheus Conspiracy, you will see the image of a bloody knife. I would like the spine of The Surgeon’s Curse to feature the image of a surgeon’s bloody scalpel, in the same size and placement as the knife on the cover of The Morpheus Conspiracy.
I will also upload a photo of myself which I would like to have appear on the back cover, along with a brief bio and a few excerpts from reviews of my earlier book.
What to avoid
I would like the cover to be ominous but not too gory.
